Dollars with Sense

WHAT IS DOLLARS WITH SENSE?

Dollars with Sense (grades 7&8) teaches students about spending and investing wisely, budgeting, advertising and marketing. Dollars with Sense consists of 6 one-hour sessions in class.

With the guidance of a business volunteer, our young people are encouraged to develop the financial literacy necessary to make informed decsions about their financial futures.

OBJECTIVES

Volunteer business consultants will assist the students to:

  • the relationship between money and careers
  • learn about money as a means of exchange
  • understand the differences between various investments
  • learn about budgeting
  • better understand marketing and various advertising strategies

ROLE OF THE VOLUNTEER BUSINESS CONSULTANT

In the Dollars with Sense program, a business volunteer visits the classroom for one hour per week, over an 6 week period. In return for sharing their personal and professional experiences with students and helping them to understand how business plays a role in their communities, volunteers return to their place of business with improved communication and presentation skills and the satisfaction of knowing that they have fostered a positive relationship between our youth and business.
